How the Belgian price is set
Belgium is a single bidding zone in the European day-ahead market. The noon auction sets a price for each quarter-hour of the next day; since 1 October 2025 a day has 96 prices.
Suppliers with more than 200,000 customers must offer a dynamic contract, and at the end of 2025 sixteen active suppliers did so according to the regulator CREG. You need a digital meter, and dynamic contracts have been billed per quarter-hour since 1 October 2025. Network tariffs differ by region and distribution operator.
Our final price adds the per-kWh network tariff of the distribution operator you choose (Fluvius Antwerpen by default), the special excise duty for households (4.600 cents per kWh since 1 August 2026, when the energy contribution was dropped), a sample supplier margin of 2.5 cents including certificate costs, and 6% VAT. In 2026, before VAT and for a digital meter, the Fluvius offtake tariff in Flanders is 4.98–6.32 cents per kWh depending on the grid area. In Wallonia the single-rate tariff, including transmission costs, is 13.89 cents with ORES and 13.02 cents with RESA, plus a regional connection levy of 0.075 cents that is not subject to VAT. Since 2026 the Walloon two-rate tariff follows the same hours every day: off-peak from 11:00 to 17:00 and from 22:00 to 7:00 (9.56 cents with ORES, 9.20 with RESA), peak at all other times (15.11 and 14.10 cents). The optional Impact tariff, for smart meters with communication switched on, has three levels: ECO from 11:00 to 17:00 and from 1:00 to 7:00 (7.39 and 7.29 cents), MEDIUM from 7:00 to 11:00 and from 22:00 to 1:00 (12.81 and 12.07), and PIC from 17:00 to 22:00 (18.22 and 16.85). On a dynamic contract these bands push the best hours further towards midday and night and make the evening noticeably dearer; pick your option at the top of the page and the cheapest windows and the planner follow. In Brussels, Sibelga bills smart-meter households peak and off-peak rates by default: 11.54 cents on working days from 7:00 to 22:00 and 9.25 cents at night, at weekends and on public holidays. The monthly reports go back to January 2024 and use each year's tariffs; the excise duty and energy contribution were the same in 2024 and 2025 as in early 2026.
The rates are not directly comparable: Flanders also has a capacity tariff based on your highest quarter-hour peak, while Wallonia and Brussels put almost everything into the price per kWh. Fixed charges – the capacity tariff, metering and data management, standing charges and the Flemish energy levy – are not included.
