What households on basic supply pay
On basic supply, the tariff is fixed for the whole calendar year by the local grid operator. A typical household using 4,500 kWh a year pays a median of 27.7 centimes per kWh in 2026; in 2027 it will be 26.5 centimes (median values from the regulator ElCom).
In median terms, 12.11 centimes go to energy, 10.73 to network use, 1.65 to metering, 2.3 to the grid surcharge and 1.0 to municipal levies. Each component is a separate median, so the sum differs slightly from the overall median. Depending on the municipality, tariffs can be much higher or lower.

How the Swiss price is set
Switzerland is not part of the European market coupling. Its exchange price for the next day comes from a separate day-ahead auction that still works in hourly steps, so a Swiss day has 24 prices. Through the cross-border lines the price stays closely linked to Germany, France and northern Italy.
Most households are in basic supply: their local grid operator sets the electricity price for a whole calendar year, overseen by the federal regulator ElCom. On top of energy they pay grid usage, levies, the grid surcharge and 8.1% VAT. Prices are converted from euro at the European Central Bank's reference rate and shown in Swiss francs.
