How the Norwegian price is set

Norway has five bidding zones. This page covers NO2, south-west Norway with Kristiansand and Stavanger. NO2 has interconnectors to Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany and the UK, so its price often follows continental prices more closely than the rest of the country. Since 1 October 2025 the noon auction sets 96 quarter-hour prices for the next day; we show them in øre per kWh in the Norwegian edition, converted from euro at the European Central Bank's reference rate.

Households can choose Norgespris, a fixed energy price of 40 øre per kWh excluding VAT (50 øre including VAT) for up to 5,000 kWh a month, valid until the end of 2026. Those on a spot-price contract instead receive electricity support: the state covers 90% of the spot price above 77 øre per kWh excluding VAT, calculated hour by hour. Grid tariffs, electricity tax and VAT come on top.

FAQ

When are tomorrow's prices published?
The day-ahead auction closes at 12:00 CET. Results are normally available from about 12:45–13:30 CET, and this site picks them up automatically.
Why are prices sometimes negative?
When wind and solar output is high and demand is low, some producers cannot or will not reduce output. The market then clears below zero. Whether you benefit depends on your contract.
Is the final price exactly what I pay?
No – it is an estimate built from official taxes and charges plus a sample supplier margin. Your own contract, grid area and fixed fees can differ.
