How the Portuguese price is set

Portugal shares the Iberian market with Spain. Most of the time both countries have the same price; when the interconnector is full, the prices split.

Indexed retail offers pass this wholesale price on, plus the ERSE grid access tariff, the special consumption tax (IEC), the supplier's losses and margin, and VAT.

Our final price uses the 2026 access tariffs for normal low voltage up to 20.7 kVA – single rate (€0.0607 per kWh) or two-rate with off-peak from 22:00 to 08:00 (€0.0158 off-peak, €0.0835 otherwise) – plus €0.001 IEC, a sample €0.02 for losses and margin, and 23% VAT, the rate that applies to consumption above the reduced-VAT allowance. Fixed monthly charges are not included.

FAQ

When are tomorrow's prices published?
The day-ahead auction closes at 12:00 CET. Results are normally available from about 12:45–13:30 CET, and this site picks them up automatically.
Why are prices sometimes negative?
When wind and solar output is high and demand is low, some producers cannot or will not reduce output. The market then clears below zero. Whether you benefit depends on your contract.
Is the final price exactly what I pay?
No – it is an estimate built from official taxes and charges plus a sample supplier margin. Your own contract, grid area and fixed fees can differ.
