How the Swedish price is set
Sweden is split into four bidding zones. This page covers SE3, which includes Stockholm and Gothenburg, and SE4 in the far south around Malmö. The noon auction sets 96 quarter-hour prices for each zone for the next day; the zones only diverge when the north–south grid is congested, and SE4 is then usually the more expensive one.
Many Swedish households have a variable contract that follows the hourly or quarter-hourly spot price, plus the supplier's mark-up. Grid fees, energy tax and 25% VAT come on top. The grid fee depends on where you live – each area has one grid company – and usually combines a fixed charge by fuse size with a transfer fee per kWh; some companies also charge for your monthly power peaks. We show prices in öre per kWh in the Swedish edition, converted from euro at the European Central Bank's reference rate for the day.
Since 1 January 2026 our final price adds the per-kWh transfer fee of the grid company you choose, energy tax of SEK 0.36 per kWh, a sample supplier mark-up of SEK 0.05 and 25% VAT. Transfer fees come from the companies' own 2026 price lists, before VAT: Vattenfall Eldistribution SEK 0.356 on its single-rate tariff, or on its time-of-use tariff SEK 0.612 on weekdays 06:00–22:00 from November to March and SEK 0.244 otherwise; Ellevio SEK 0.208 (for houses from 1 June 2026, when it dropped its capacity charge – SEK 0.056 plus the capacity charge before that); Göteborg Energi SEK 0.184 for houses and SEK 0.30 for apartments; Kraftringen SEK 0.16 plus 5% of the spot price. Fixed charges and capacity charges are not included.
