How the Luxembourg price is set
Luxembourg shares a bidding zone with Germany, so the day-ahead price is identical in both countries: every day at noon the auction sets a price for each quarter-hour of the next day, 96 prices a day since 1 October 2025.
Most Luxembourg households have a fixed-price contract. Smart meters (Smarty) are installed almost everywhere, so quarter-hourly metering is technically possible.
Our final price is an estimate for a contract whose energy price follows the market. On top of the wholesale price we add a sample supplier margin of €0.02, the network charge per kWh – the same across the country, €0.0510 in 2026 because the state now covers part of the grid costs –, the electricity tax of €0.001 and 8% VAT. For households using less than 25 MWh a year, the contribution to the renewables compensation mechanism is negative: since 1 August 2026 it takes €0.0371 off every kWh, about 4 cents including VAT until the end of 2026. The fixed monthly fee based on reference power, meter rental and the surcharge for power above the reference level are not included.
